Dylan's Den
How it all began

In June 2008 when five parents found out that the private after school club was going to close, they wondered what on earth to do. After a few impromptu meetings the parents from Treorchy set up a not-for-profit social enterprise run by volunteer directors and within 6 weeks Dylan’s Den was born, with the help of Treorchy Primary School Headteacher Louise Reynolds, Clybiau Plant Cymru and Wales Co- Operative.

Dylan’s Den registered with Care Inspectorate Wales in January 2011 who register, inspect and take action to improve the quality and safety of childcare provisions across Wales.

Dylan’s Den then added a holiday club which runs through most school holidays. A Playgroup was added in 2014 and in 2015 we added a wraparound, for children aged
2 – 4 years attending part time school.

Along the way we have secured grants and funding from many sources to enable us to continue to grow and our guiding principle has always been to be a place where children want to play.

April 2021 saw an extensive refurbishment of the old nursery building at Treorchy Primary School where we are based adding an extension and canopy to allow us to extend our provision.

From starting with just five children in 2008 we now have over 100 children attending Dylan’s Den across our 3 settings, and is still run by enthusiastic volunteer directors.  Our not-for-profit status means that we plough funds back into constantly developing our offer for the benefit of the children and their families.

Our three settings consist of Dragon Tots Playgroup/Wraparound for children aged 2 – 4 years, who can attend until they can access fulltime school and is open term-time only 12 noon until 3.00pm. After School club for children aged 3 – 11 years, term-time only from 3.00pm until 6.00pm and Holiday Club open most school holidays from 8.30am – 4.30pm for children aged 3-11 years.

When you have children, it can be hard to find quality childcare which means that it can be difficult to fulfil work commitments, training opportunities or last-minute plans.  Dylan’s Den offers an answer to these problems and we are always here to help you.
